UNISON petition against unfair registration fees hike for social workers

UNISON has been lobbying hard on the issue of a fee hike and the change to appeal rights for social workers in England when the Health Professions Council (HPC) takes over responsibility for their registration.

While there has been some movement by the HPC the fundamental issue of a 150% hike in the fee, and the move to High Court appeals, remain unchanged.

We've previously asked you to write to your MP: http://www.writetothem.com about this. But now we need to step up the pressure because the message is not getting through.

We need as many social workers as possible to SIGN OUR PETITION – so please circulate this petition far and wide!

NJC report on social workers

(Full report available here)

The final report of the NJC Working Party on the recruitment, retention and career progression of social workers was issued in December 2011. The report contains a comprehensive set of role profiles encompassing the full range of social worker roles.

You may be aware that an interim report was issued on 30 March 2010 to highlight the progress made at that time. The recommendations in that interim report involved some attempts to help councils to develop their social work jobs and career structures to encourage staff to stay in frontline practice.

Since that time, a significant piece of work was undertaken to:

§  prepare sample role profiles

§  assess the costs of potential outcomes

§  obtain an assessment of any possible equal pay risks.

The Branch is about to enter into discussions with the employer on this and other subjects relating to Social Work; it is important that you share with us your views, suggestions and ideas.  We ideally need some of you to work with us and become Reps for your Social Work Team.  Please contact Paul or Helen on 01473 584333, or email us c/o suffolkcounty@btconnect.com.
